GUINNESS® Launches Epic New Ad to the Rugby Home Nations

Thursday September 8th sees the makers of GUINNESS bring the game of rugby to life in an ambitious new ad directed by Academy Award winner Tom Hooper. To reflect the line-outs, scrums and tackles on the rugby pitch, two armies are seen to be recreating a battle scene with rugby inspired moves. Emulating the life and energy of the famous GUINNESS surge, a beer unlike any other enjoyed by those of equal measure, the creative tells the story where ‘one nation will rise, one will be made of more’ and can be seen at facebook.com/GuinnessGB page from 12pm.

Overseeing the return to the GUINNESS tradition of creating breathtaking ads fell to Oscar winner Tom Hooper, director of ‘The King’s Speech’, whose talents for creating masterpieces for the big screen were brought to bear, giving the ad a true cinematic experience. Filming over four days in Hungary, the shoot encountered challenges normally faced only by Hollywood Blockbusters but with Tom Hooper at the helm, these were overcome with a dedicated team of 370 people together with two cranes, a staggering 50  ‘4 x 4’ vehicles and a helicopter! The ad entitled ‘The Flag’, timed to coincide with the beginning of competition in New Zealand, see’s a barren dark land covered by storm clouds in the sky. In pouring rain two legions of warriors face-off against each other with the sole goal of planting their flag on the opposing side’s hill. The two armies race towards each other in a battle that can only have one winner. Brand Director, Paul Cornell comments; “To mark the start of the tournament and to inspire all the Home Nation teams to victory abroad, we wanted to create a film that was distinct and original, that made the brand topical and flagged its superior product offering against our competitors. Director Tom Hooper has done a fantastic job in creating a film worthy of the silver screen and one which illustrates the life, energy and passion of the brand and great taste found in every pint of GUINNESS.” Rugby fans will be able to catch the ad premier on ITV during the opening game highlights of the New Zealand v Tonga game on Friday 9th September and also o during England’s match with Argentina on Saturday 10th September.
